General Appearance
The Beagle is a compactly built hound without any coarseness, and it should convey the impression of great stamina and activity.

Head And Skull
The head should he of a fair length and powerful, but without being coarse. The skull is domed, moderately wide with an indication of peak. The stop should be well defined, the muzzle not snippy and the lips well Hewed. The nose should he black and broad, and the nostrils should be well expanded.

Eves
The eyes should be brown, dark ha/el or hazel, with a mild expression, and they should not deep set or bulgy

Ears
The ears should be long, set on low and fine in texture. They should hang in a graceful fold close to the cheek.

Neck
The neck of the Beagle should be moderately long and slightly arched, and the throat should show some dewlap.

Forequarters
The shoulders should be clean and slightly sloping. The forelegs should be quite straight, of good substance and well rounded in bone.

Body
The body should be short between the couplings and well let down in the chest. The ribs should be fairly well sprung and well ribbed up. The loins should be powerful and should not be tucked up.

Hindquarters
The hindquarters of the Beagle should be very muscular about the thighs. The stifles and hocks should be well bent and the hocks should be well let down.

Feet
The feet should be round, well knuckled up, and strongly padded.

Tail
The tail should be of moderate length, set on high, and carried gaily, bul should never be curled over the back.

Coat
For the Smooth variety, the coat should be smooth, very dense and not too fine or short and for the Rough variety, the coat should be very dense and wiry.

Colour
Any recognized hound colour.

Size
Desirable height is 13 to 16 inches. Maximum height in USA is 15 inches.
