Train your puppy to come when you call and to know its name. Always praise your pet when it is good; just grumble when it is naughty, you can hit the ground with a roll of newspaper as a reprimand. This is usually quite sufficient.

House training needs patience and commonsense: always put a puppy where you want it to relieve itself as soon as it wakes from sleep. Always take it outside after meals, and any time you see it fidgeting and looking uneasy.

Accompany it and say 'Good boy' when it has finished. Keep a thick layer of newspaper available which the pup can use to relieve itself if it wakes in the night, or if the weather is wet, It is quite easy to keep things clean this way. The paper can be dispensed with once the house training is successful.
