A firm tone of voice along with a reward is often enough to make your dog obey your command. Rewards are reinforcements that help the dog understand that he has done something good.
However, reward must not be mistaken with bribery. Bribery in dog training means dog is aware of the presence of the reward before he is asked to obey the command. Once your dog gets used of bribery, he will eventually refuse to obey what you are telling him to do when he can not see the reward.
The best thing for you to do is to hide the reward from your dog. Show and give the reward only when he has successfully complied with the command.
Sometimes, punishing your dog is very much needed though it is seldom recommended. Punishment is only given when you catch a dog does something unacceptable, to make him understand why he is being punished. Punishing your dog a day after the act will not make any difference and will only confuse him of why he is being punished.
